Without a Compass

Mission, vision and values were chalked up as hype until I encountered a startup whose only stated mission was to make money.

Of course a business wants to make money.

However, long-term success doesn’t really seem to come from consistent, short-term thinking.

A mission, vision and values statement is like a compass. It helps guide decisions so you can stay focused and get back to executing.

Without it, you can look over the side of the ship and see that you’re moving through the water, but it’s really hard to tell if you’re going in circles or the right direction.

Don’t mistake movement for progress.
