It’s your performance.
A nuance about evaluations or feedback we give in Toastmasters sometimes isn’t so clear.
When evaluating a speech, we are gauging the performance of the individual giving the speech. Not the person.
Using language like, “here to evaluate John” instead of, “here to evaluate John’s speech” can inadvertently make it too personal.
When we make it too personal there’s an implication that it’s a permanent personality trait, rather than a one-time occurrence that can be improved upon with some practice.
